Here's a list of some of our favourite rail sites. It's in no particular order, but the most recent additions are at the top of the list. If you have a site you'd like to see listed here, or if you find any broken links on this page, click here to let us know.
- Rolly Martin Country - A tribute site created by David J. Gagnon. "I began this website a few years ago to salute my friend Rolly, and to relive the very brief railway operating career I had on the CPR along the north shore of Lake Superior. From dairy farm experiences as a student, to the railway experience, to hospital and management work, and volunteer work with railway preservation and new immigrants to Canada, I have always been interested in understanding systems, ideas, human behaviour, and history. In the end, I am really no more than a student of history and old technologies."
- Nova Scotia's Railway Heritage - "The Nova Scotia Railway Heritage Society is delighted to help introduce you to some of the railway history of Nova Scotia and to some of the museums in which you can relive past railway glories of one of Canada's most history-rich provinces...."
- Atlas of Alberta Railways - from the site: "Enter the Atlas of Alberta Railways website for a fascinating graphic approach to the railroading history of Alberta. The Atlas' 224 detailed maps are accompanied by short articles, illustrations, historic photographs, charts, graphs and interesting trivia that provide a comprehensive overview of the railways in our province."
- Wainwright Railway Preservation Society - "The park is operated by the Wainwright Railway Preservation Society under mandate to interpret the history and importance of Canadian National Railways and its predecessor lines in Western Canada, with emphasis on the Wainwright area. Wainwright Rail Park is built to depict a working rail yard."
- Hinton GTP Railway Station House Preservation Society - "... a society for the preservation of the historic Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Station House (1911-12) in Hinton."
- Ocean Beach Railway in Dunedin New Zealand
- The Last Days of Steam - The memoirs, photos and memorabilia of Trainman Allan B. Peden, who worked on the CNR during the 1950's. Excerpts from his book, as well as many photographs.
- The Saskatchewan Railway Museum - Run by the Saskatchewan Railroad Historical Association. From the site: "The association was founded to collect, preserve, restore, exhibit, study, and interpret Canadian Railway artifacts and Canadian Street Railway artifacts and equipment, especially that of a type which has been used in Saskatchewan."
- All In a Day's Work - an article about the friendly track-laying competition between the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads.
- LIRR Track Laying Cars - how track gets laid in some parts of the world today.
- Railroad Track - an interesting resource for understanding track layout and construction.
- WW&F Track Laying Weekend, May 2000 - A fun little article about laying track the old-fashioned way.
- The Railway Association of Canada (RAC)- "... the industry association of 56 freight, passenger, commuter, and tourist railways that operate throughout Canada."
- RailFanClub - "The Association of American Railroads salutes train enthusiasts everywhere by organizing RailFanClub. RailFanClub membership costs $19.99 per year, and proceeds go to the Railroad Research Foundation. The Railroad Research Foundation's mission is to promote today's railroad industry through research, communication, and education activities."
- North American Railcar Operators Association (NARCOA) "...dedicated to the preservation and safe, legal operation of railroad equipment, historically used in the maintenance of way."
- The C&E Railway Station Museum - located in the Old Strathcona neighbourhood of Edmonton. The Calgary & Edmonton Railway was an important part of Alberta rail history.
- The Sandon Historical Society has an article of interest to railfans: Ribbons of Steel in the Wilderness: The Rail War for the Slocan's Wealth. The rest of the site is full of other interesting historical information as well.
- The C. Robert Craig Memorial Library - one of Canada's largest collections. Its mandate is "to collect, preserve and make available to the public, materials that document the history of rail transportation in Canada, with an emphasis on eastern Ontario."
- Alberta 2005 Centennial Railway Museum Society
- Canadian Railway Telegraph History - many fascinating stories, well worth a look.
- Kamloops Heritage Railway
- Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions - operates out of Stettler, Alberta.
- Canada Museum of Science and Technology - this site has a gallery of CN historical photos posted here.
- West Coast Railway Association
- Greg Scholl Video - has a large selection of Canadian railway videos.
- RailroadInfo - Site with lots of links, news and information, the work of Bob Harbison.
- Rails Canada - an all-rail, all-Canadian internet search engine and directory.

- Alberta Railway Museum Archives and Special Libraries are housed in the Reading Room at the Provincial Archives of Alberta. These libraries are the John Rechner Memorial Library and the George Faulder Technical Library
